Mandala Super Mandala Custom Shape

In this example, we'll make a kite.  There is no kite-shaped tile in TileDreams, though it is a common enough shape, and can easily be made.

This kite will be aligned vertically (as though it were flying straight up).  The top isoceles triangle will be 1/2 as tall as the inverted isoceles triangle on the bottom.

We'll first make a simple grid for alignment purposes:

Make sure Detect vertex is set to a non-zero value to ensure precise alignment of your grid.  dv3.jpg (1005 bytes) dv6.jpg (1039 bytes) dv9.jpg (1031 bytes)

We'll need a square grid, so set the base factor to 6 or 8.  base_shapemenu.gif (1996 bytes)

Create a 2 x 3 grid of squares

Push in the Custom Shape button on the toolbar.  customshape000.gif (1284 bytes)  Detect vertex should still be a non-zero value

Move around the grid, clicking the points in the order marked when the current tile (mouse) changes to the highlight color:

After you click each point, TileDreams will mark the point you clicked with a circle drawn in the defined highlight color:

kite001b.gif (1406 bytes)

After you click the fourth point, press the Custom Shape button again, restoring it to it's unpressed state.  customshape001.gif (1197 bytes)

Your next click on the display area will add the shape you defined, using the precise points you selected.  The point-markers will disappear.

Remove the original squares, and your kite is ready for action!

If this is a a shape that will be rotated within your design, you may want to consider making additional tiles at other orientations to minimize the skewing effects inherent in rounding floating-point values to whole-numbers.
